this film is coverage of a B-25 bomber that crashed into the Empire State building on July 28th, 1945, which killed 14 people. Hadn’t heard of it? I heard SOME talk about this story, but never actually seen any footage of it until now. This is pretty amazing footage here of the destruction, both in the building and on the ground. The whole floor looks wasted. Curiously, there is footage of what appears to be a dead clothed man, lying in an empty room of the tower. I guess they just pulled him out and left him there for authorities to pick him up? It’s a very chilling and somewhat unworldly scene. This silent firefighting film from the 30s starts with newsreel footage of a fire that burned down the Staten Island Ferry Station. Then it moves on to several other fires around New York City. The last segment, on the Sky Line fire at Sherry Netherlands, features spectacular footage of the top floors of a skyscraper burning and raining down debris.

Another mixed bag of fires in the Stillman collection.. among the highlights, a fire breaks out at the California exhibit at the San Fransisco fair, a fire at a Quebec Asylum, but the true treat here is the oil refinery fire, and well, 4 guys get a little too close to such an unsettled fire. Next thing you know, BOOM! It goes up in flames, and the fireeaters run like crazy! Ha ha ha! Actually, this COULD be cut in half, as the first half seems to consist of raw footage of the fire, and the second half consists of newsreel footage
